Symposium and Expo on Integrated Interdisciplinary Program : “The Heritage of Sulawesi and Sumatera.”

Podomoro University as an Indonesian and international-quality institution is called to participate in helping develop tourism in Indonesia. The study program at Podomoro University consistently develops learning methods that teach students to develop entrepreneurial ideas and at the same time help develop tourism and preserve Indonesian culture.

“National is me” is the theme of the “Symposium and Expo on Integrated Interdisciplinary Program”, which is an annual event at Podomoro University. The Symposium and Expo on Integrated Interdisciplinary Program is an event that combines three different study programs, they are Hotel Business Program, Architecture Program and Product Design Program. The event was held at Podomoro University for 2 days on June 27th – June 28th, 2019 with theme “The Heritage of Sulawesi and Sumatra.” This event was supported by various institutions and associations that played a role in this learning process such as Ikatan Arsitek Indonesia (Indonesia Architecture Association), Indonesia Hotel General Managers, Designers, Hotels in Jakarta, Export Craft Companies in Indonesia, and etc.

The purpose of this event is to foster a sense of love for the country in working in the tourism industry (hospitality, culinary and MICE), the creative architecture industry and product design industry in Indonesia. In addition, with this event, Podomoro University participated in developing environmentally friendly building ideas.

On the first day, 8 groups that have been divided randomly present the menus that are served at the restaurant which will be opened in their hotel later. Starting from appetizers, main course and desserts, each food was sampled for the judges. The judges are Gupta Sitorus, an expert on gastronomy and Theopilus Hans, a final semester student of Hotel Business Program at  Podomoro University and Top 8 Masterchef Indonesia Season 5.

All assessments go through 4 methodologies, there are:

1. Presentation (visual)

2. Originality

3. Concept

4. Taste

Of course the food theme proposed must not be separated from the main theme, food from the regions of Sumatra and Sulawesi. Not all the presentation are considered good and perfect because the input and suggestions from the judges for Podomoro University students will later become their future knowledge.

After the Integrated Interdisciplinary program, the first day was finished, 8 groups who had made food presentations from each restaurant concept, will again present the hotel concept and management on the second day. On the second day, the judges are experts in management, hotel and building concepts. The judges are:

4. Feri Gunawan 

5. Yennas Chandra 

The judges not only judge the presentation of each group. But also take a look at the picture of each booth that has been performed. Display is not only seen from the interior, but how the concept is presented, from products to serving a food. Later the assessment system will be combined between the first and second days from what has been presented and the winners will be divided into several categories, including:

1. Best Culinary Art hasil penilaian dari presentasi di hari pertama 

2. Best Energetic Booth Expo 

3. Best Hotel Product Design 

4. Best Fresh Hotel Concept
